Question by Julio: Why did the Philippines got rid of most Spanish influences except for Catholicism?
Even tough some Spanish influence is still present in the Philippines, I understand that most of it has been erased, and is not visible in the daily life.
But Catholicism is still overwhelmingly the most popular religion.
Why has Catholicism become such a big part of society in the Philippines, but not other Spanish traditions?
@ragdefen: Yes I was mostly referring to the language.
That explains alot.
But what about other influences like food, arts or architecture? Was Spain ever an important influence in the Philippines, or still is?

most people are contend with what they acquired from their parents, never verifying it whether it is rational as long as it is good for them. One thing I observed, as what most people has in their nature. They would go stick to anything that would benefit them, not spiritually, but financially.
Don't you notice that many go to such religious group because they get employment, business connection or anything for material gain or they won't leave a religious affiliation for fear of castigation from the main business stream or social status.
but of course, there are many devoted to this faith as they understand it to be the most rational.
