To get some decent exposure, join Flickr once you have pictures.

Start by taking pictures with your girlfriend/boyfriend or someone you're close enough with to get a hang of it.

Read up online, on forums and look at pictures to see what sort of style you like.

Talk to photographers, e-mail them, etc.
